Customs Regulations

Under protection of the Dominican Law 14-93 importation of household goods are exempt of customs duties payment. Also under protection of Law 168 importation of one vehicle per person registered in same name for more than a year are partially exempt of customs duties payment. Any person or whole family who apply for customs duties exemption must be physically present at the moment of making the customs declaration carrying supporting credentials to proof the intention to reside in the Dominican Republic.

Required documents by the General Direction of Customs:

A-) Dominican citizens:

• Valid passport (if emitted same year, old must be attached)
* Dominican or foreigners cannot have more that 6 month in the DR. accumulated in 1 last year *
• Marriage certificate
• Birth certificate of children whom living in same house

B-) Foreigners (including the previous credentials):

• Dominican resident card or Migration Certificate
• Legalized lease of house or apartment
• Work contract
• Supporting banking account

Required documents by the General Direction of Customs to clear:

C-) Husehold goods and personal effects:

• Original ocean bill of lading or Air way bill
• Inventories or packing list

D-) Automobile:

• Original ocean bill of lading
• Original Owner title. (Title has read owner name for more than 1 year)
• Records of last registered cards
• Original driver's license

Articles subjects to customs duties:

All new electrical appliance, duplicated items quantified per more than a person’s or family’s need this include refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, office equipment, computers or machinerie.

Prohibited Articles:

Guns, drugs, explosives, ammunitions and pornographic material.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

If shipper is foreigner, Dominican Resident Card will be required by Customs Authorities in all cases (excluding diplomatic) to grant the benefits of duties exemptions laws.
